Saint-Paul is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, located in the Joliette Regional County Municipality (MRC) and the Lanaudière administrative region. It is named in honour of Paul of Tarsus.
Saint-Paul originated in the northeast of the former Seigneury of Lavaltrie. The first settlers, primarily from Saint-Pierre-du-Portage (L’Assomption) and Saint-Sulpice, gradually cleared the land. They began along the L’Assomption River around 1748, then moved to the banks of the Ouareau River around 1750, and finally to the Saint-Pierre Creek around 1765. The population grew rapidly.
In 1855, the Parliament of the Province of Canada passed the Lower Canada Municipalities and Roads Act to ensure the legal status of localities like Saint-Paul.
The Ouareau River flows through the southeast of the municipality until its confluence with the L'Assomption River in the south. The latter forms the southeast boundary of the municipality and flows southwest to its confluence with the Ouareau River.
