Saint-Lin-Laurentides is a Canadian city in Quebec located in the Montcalm Regional County Municipality (MRC), in the Lanaudière region.
Despite the fact that its name includes "Laurentides," the municipality has the distinction of being located just outside the region of the same name.
As of 2024, Saint-Lin was the 46th most populous city in Quebec, with approximately 26,396 inhabitants.
The city is named in honor of Saint Lin, who was the second pope.
In France, there is a commune of the same name located in the Deux-Sèvres department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
Beginning in the 1820s, John Pangman, seigneur of Lachenaie, granted several plots of land to English-speaking Protestant settlers on the Rivière Sud range, starting from the boundary with the seigneury of Terrebonne, now Sainte-Sophie. Since many of them were Methodists, they named their area "Wesleyville" in honor of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.
The town was created in March 2000. It was formed from the merger of the municipality of Saint-Lin (1836) and Ville des Laurentides (1883).
The former mayor of the town was Patrick Massé, who served as mayor for eight years. Before him, the mayor was André Auger, who held this position for approximately 40 years. The current mayor (2023) is Mathieu Maisonneuve, elected in a 2021 general election.
The Achigan River crosses the northwest tip of the municipality from northeast to southwest and returns to cross the municipality from west to east. The Beauport River, flowing from the northeast, joins the Achigan River at the northwest boundary of the municipality. The Petite Rivière, which flows southwest, crosses the northeast of the municipality until its confluence with the Achigan River west of the town center.
